Steve Mason

Steve Mason is an electrician by training and first heard of The Raymarine Lively Lady Project when Alan visited his Rotary Club to talk about the challenge ahead of him. Steve has been in and around boats for all his life and saw this as a real opportunity to do something different and to put something back into the community. After the meeting he spoke to Alan and explained that he would like to be part of the voyage but that all his experience was in power boats. Given Alan's own background in powerboating he knew how valuable that experience can be and explained to Steve that, as long as he was prepared to put in the work to translate that experience into sailing, the team would do everything they could to help him.

"It was a wonderful feeling that someone I had only just met could have that confidence in me. This led me to think that, if that same feeling of faith and confidence could be instilled in the Young Adults, it could only be of benefit to them and those they associate with. If just a fraction of the commitment and enthusiasm of the team involved in the voyage rubs off on the crews it will all have been worthwhile".

That was more than two years ago and Steve is now as happy on boats that are wind-powered as horse-powered! He's done his Yachtmaster and is vital to the team in his role as our electrical maintenance man.
