Egbert Walters

Eg has always had a love of the water and fast boats. He started boating at the age of 6, built and raced hydroplanes, and crewed on several sail boats over the years. His most recent experiences have been as a crew member with Alan Priddy: First on his record-setting trans Atlantic trip on the 10 metre RIB, "Sprit" (from Newfoundland to Scotland) in 2003. He was also on board in 2004 when Spirit sustained catastrophic boat failure off the coast of Iceland and the crew were rescued from the sinking boat.

In 'real' life, Eg is the General Manager of the Community Food Sharing Association in St. John's, Newfoundland, a non-profit organization providing food to less fortunate families in Newfoundland. He was born and raised in St. John's.

Eg will be sailing on the second leg from St. John's to Rhode Island. And, on the stopover in St. John's, he will be marrying Sandy on board Lively Lady! Then he will be sailing two more legs from Sydney - Melbourne and Melbourne - Freemantle, in Australia.

Because of the friendship that he and Alan have, it was inevitable that he become involved with the project. He said he was "thrilled to be offered an opportunity to be on the water with such an accomplished visionary, marine adventurer and philanthropist as Alan Priddy. But most of all, it is an honour to be able to make a difference in the lives of those who have been marginalized by society".

He hopes that his age and experience will provide some stability and guidance at times when things are not going well. In the preparation stages of the project, Eg served as a facilitator between the Lively Lady Project and Stratus Global who are the communications provider for the trip and who have offices in St. John's.

As far as what he hopes to achieve through his involvement with the Lively Lady Project, the only thing he wants to come away with is "a sense of being able to help some youth to better themselves in society".
