Charlene Stubbs
Charlene is 17 and comes from the Landport area. She first heard about The Raymarine Lively Lady Project through the Cadets as Alan came to give them a talk about the project. Following on from that, she applied and was delighted to be accepted. At the moment she's still at school, but will be carrying on to Highbury College next year.
She'd never sailed before, but has clearly got the hang of it as she said the best part of all the training they've done so far was the race they did as part of their sail training - even if they did come last!
Like many of the team, she's been hard at work packing bags and running stalls at fetes to help with the fundraising. She's found it all hard work, but great fun and feels she's made lots of new friends and gained many new skills that will stand her in good stead for the future.
It's not just the sailing she's looking forward to on her leg - she can't wait for the journey out there either as it will be the first time she's been on a plane or out of the country. As she said, "It's all new and exciting!". << back
