Bernard Jacobs

Bernard was born in Harlow, but moved to Bognor Regis when he was three and has lived there ever since. He learnt to sail on a boating holiday on Norfork Broards, then promptly came home and bought a Watercat 10 Cat. He sailed that for a few years off Bognor beach before selling it. He was subsequently trained by Raymarine to be a skipper on their test boats, Viper and Rubeus.

In 'real life' Bernard works for Raymarine as a Development Technician in their New Products department, where he supports the Engineers in their work creating new products.

Bernard's key role in the preparations has been the setting up of all the electronic kit on board. He will be sailing the Acapulco to San Diego legs, but will be on hand to provide essential remote support with the various items of Raymarine kit on board.

Like Tobi, Bernard won the chance to be on board through an internal Raymarine competition. However, it was the lure of a chance in a lifetime trip that caught his imagination and made him want to enter. He saw it as a chance to test himself against the elements but also to help make it a memorable trip for the young adults and an opportunity to contribute something important to their lives.
